Originally from Waterloo, Ontario I attended Wilfrid Laurier University where I earned an Honours Degree in Political Science in 1979 and played on the Ontario West champion varsity basketball team. A sense of team spirit is essential in litigation-we are in the case together. After graduation I moved to Ottawa, Ontario in 1980 where I was employed for a Member of Parliament representing Cambridge, Ontario. In 1982 I moved to London, Ontario to attend Western University’s Faculty of Law, graduating in 1985.

While at Western University I was elected President of the Law Faculty’s student body and was awarded membership in the Dean Ivan Rand Honour Society. I was a member of the international moot court team.

After completing my articles at the Toronto law firm Tory, Tory I was called to the Ontario bar in 1987. Shortly thereafter I attended the Institut d’Etudes Politiques et Economiques (Science Po) in Paris, France, graduating from the one-year program for international students in 1989.

 

In 1989 I opened my own law practice with a focus on litigation. Over the years I have represented clients in a wide variety of matters. I have often acted for individuals who are in trouble with the state or with their employer: charged criminally, terminated by their employer, discriminated against unfairly, disciplined by their profession, injured by the careless or wrongful act of another, detained in a hospital. I have appeared before all levels of court in Ontario and before numerous regulatory and administrative tribunals and boards.

 

My practice is centred in Ottawa and throughout Eastern Ontario. I have a working knowledge in the French language.
